Kansas City’s Historic Saddle & Sirloin Club

The Saddle & Sirloin Club history has deep roots with the Kansas City community. We were established on November 23, 1940 by the founders of the American Royal Livestock Show to be a booster for the show. The founders of the Club and most of our early members, were involved in the agriculture, cattle and stockyard industries. Soon after the Club’s inception the membership grew to include a cross of business and professional life as well.

The original club grounds were purchased in 1943 and the club was located on Mission Road in Leawood, Kansas. Many remember it as a former dairy farm and at one time was surrounded only by fields and farms. Over time the city surrounded the club and it was decided to purchase 300+ acres in south Kansas City, Missouri. In the winter of 1999, the club moved to its current location at 144th and Holmes. The property already had an equestrian center, complete with three barns and two outdoor riding arenas, plus many empty buildings used for development. Immediately we began remodeling the private home of “Buzz” Williams that was on property and transformed it into our current gracious clubhouse.

In just a few short years, the northwest side of the property has been transformed into a world-class shotgun shooting facility. In addition, countless volunteer hours have been spent clearing trails through the woods, clearing ponds for fishing, and establishing campsites, making the grounds accessible for horse riding and those that want to get away to their “ranch in the city”.

All of our members share a set of common goals.

  • Provide a Club in the Country where people can enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere
  • Promote equine sports through all disciplines of horseback riding, educational equine clinics, events and competitions
  • Promote shooting sports through a world-class facility offering clinics, leagues and competitions
  • Encourage fellowship among members through dining, social events and outdoor activities
  • Further the traditions of the American Royal Livestock, Rodeo and Horse Show.

The mission of the Saddle and Sirloin Club is to be a private equine club that promotes equestrian sports across all disciplines while providing unique social and sporting opportunities, fostering fellowship among its members, and honoring the Club’s tradition of supporting the American Royal.
